Signs you may need a power flush

• Radiators cold at the bottom or in patches
• Radiators need frequent bleeding
• Noisy boiler or banging pipes
• Slow to heat up and higher energy bills
• Dirty black water when bleeding radiators
• Recommended before fitting a new boiler

If a few of these sound familiar, it is worth getting the system looked at. Sludge does not clear itself, and left alone it shortens the life of the boiler pump and heat exchanger.

What happens during a power flush

1. Assessment. We check your system first. If a power flush is not the right fix, we will say so.
2. Flushing. A pumping unit circulates cleaning agents through the system at high flow, dislodging rust and sludge radiator by radiator.
3. Rinsing. The dirty water is flushed out until the system runs clean.
4. Protection. We refill the system and add an inhibitor to slow future corrosion and build-up.

Why it is worth doing

A clean system moves heat where it should go. Radiators warm evenly and quickly, the boiler works less hard, and the parts that sludge destroys, like pumps and valves, last longer. If you are having a new boiler fitted, flushing the old system first protects the new boiler and can be a condition of the manufacturer warranty.
