What a new boiler costs in Cambridge

Every home is different, so we would rather give you a realistic guide than advertise an unrealistically low starting price.

Boiler installation jobs and typical installed prices, including VAT
Job Typical installed price (inc VAT)
Combi boiler replacement Replacing an existing combi in broadly the same location £3,000–£4,500
System or regular boiler replacement Keeping the existing hot water cylinder £3,500–£5,500
Conversion to a combi Removing the cylinder and tanks and altering the system £4,500–£6,500+

The exact price depends on the boiler selected, controls, flue arrangement, system condition, pipework alterations and whether additional work such as a power flush is required.

After a survey, you will receive a clear fixed quotation before any work starts.

What's included in every installation

  • The boiler itself and all fittings
  • Full installation by a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • System cleanse and inhibitor to protect your new boiler
  • Magnetic system filter fitted as standard
  • Commissioning, Benchmark paperwork and Gas Safe building notification
  • A proper handover, we show you how the controls work before we leave
  • 12-month workmanship guarantee
  • Manufacturer warranty of up to 12 years on selected models

What might add to it

We'd rather tell you now than surprise you later:

  • Moving the boiler to a different room or up into the loft
  • Upgrading the gas supply pipe where the existing one is undersized
  • A full power flush where the system is heavily sludged
  • New radiators, thermostatic valves or smart controls

Whatever your survey turns up, the price we quote is the price you pay. If something unforeseen appears mid-job we stop, explain it, and agree it with you before carrying on. Nothing gets added to your bill without your say-so.

Backed for up to 12 years

We register your new boiler with the manufacturer, which gives you a warranty of up to 12 years on selected models. We'll tell you exactly what yours comes with before you commit, it's on the quote in writing, not buried in a leaflet.

That's on top of our own 12-month guarantee covering the workmanship. If anything isn't right with how we've fitted it, we come back and put it right. No quibbling.

To keep the manufacturer warranty valid your boiler needs servicing annually. We'll remind you when it's due, and our annual service is £99.

The boilers we fit, and why

We're not tied to one manufacturer. We fit what suits your house, your water pressure and your budget, and we'll tell you honestly which is which.

Worcester Bosch

The one we fit most. Reliable, parts are everywhere, and Which? consistently rate them near the top. Long manufacturer warranties when we register them. Our default recommendation for most Cambridge homes.

Vaillant

Quiet, compact and very well built. A good shout where the boiler's going somewhere you'll hear it, a kitchen you sit in, or a cupboard off a bedroom.

Ideal

Solid boilers at a friendlier price. Where budget is the priority, this is where we'd point you without feeling bad about it.

Which one you need depends on your house, not our preference. Bedrooms, bathrooms, mains water pressure and where the boiler's going all change the answer. That's what the survey is for.

How it works

  1. Step 1

Free survey, usually within a few days

Reiss comes out, looks at your existing system, checks your water pressure and asks how your household actually uses hot water. Takes about half an hour.

  2. Step 2

A fixed written quote, valid 30 days

You get a proper quotation with the boiler specified, the work described and one final number. No pressure and no chasing, if you want to think about it, think about it.

  3. Step 3

    Installation

A like-for-like swap is usually done in a day. Moving the boiler to a new spot is normally two, and converting from a cylinder system to a combi takes two to three. Dust sheets down, and we hoover up before we go.

  4. Step 4

    Handover

We commission the system, register the warranty, walk you through the controls and hand over the paperwork. You'll know how to work your own heating before we leave.

Why not just buy one online?

The fixed-price websites are genuinely convenient, and for a straightforward swap in a straightforward house they're fine. But it's worth knowing what you're getting.

They quote from a questionnaire. We quote from your house.

An online form can't see that your gas pipe is undersized, that your mains pressure won't run the boiler you've been sold, or that your flue terminates too near a window. Those things get discovered on installation day, and that's when a fixed price stops being fixed.

You get the same engineer throughout.

Reiss surveys the job, fits it, and comes back if there's a problem. Not a subcontractor from an app who you'll never see again.

We're local, and we're staying local.

We're in Cambridge. If something goes wrong in eighteen months, we're twenty minutes away, not a call centre queue.

We'll talk you out of it if you don't need one.

If your boiler's got life left and a repair makes better sense, we'll say so. We'd rather have you as a customer for ten years than sell you one boiler you didn't need.

Worth knowing before you commit

Converting to a pressurised or combi system raises the working pressure on your existing pipework, which can occasionally show up weaknesses that were already there but hidden. It's not common, but it happens, and it's better you hear it from us now than on the day.

We'll walk you through any risks specific to your system before work starts, and our terms and conditions set out exactly how variations are handled. Nothing extra happens without your agreement.

Boiler installation questions

How much is a new boiler in Cambridge?

Most combi replacements land between £3,000 and £4,500 including VAT, covering the boiler, fitting, system cleanse, filter and guarantee. Conversions and system upgrades cost more. You'll get one fixed number after the survey, and that's what you pay.

How long does it take?

A like-for-like swap is usually a single day. Moving the boiler to a different location is normally two days. Converting from a cylinder system to a combi takes two to three days, because the old cylinder and tanks come out and the pipework needs reworking. We confirm the timescale in your quote before you commit.

Is the quote free?

Yes. The survey and the quotation are both free, with no obligation, and the price holds for 30 days.

How do I pay?

All major debit and credit cards, bank transfer or cash. Payment is on completion once you're happy with the work, we don't ask for money up front.

How long is the warranty?

Between 10 and 12 years from the manufacturer depending on which boiler you choose, plus our own 12-month workmanship guarantee. Annual servicing keeps the manufacturer warranty valid, and we'll remind you when it's due.

Do I need a power flush?

Not always. We'll always cleanse the system and fit a magnetic filter as standard. A full power flush is only recommended where the system genuinely needs it, and we'll show you why if it does. Manufacturer warranties can be affected if recommended treatments are declined.

Do you take the old boiler away?

Yes. Removal and responsible disposal is included.

Do you notify Building Control?

Yes. Every gas installation is notified to Gas Safe, and you'll receive your certificate. It's included, not an extra.

Which areas do you cover for installations?

Cambridge and the surrounding villages are our core area. We also cover wider Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and London. See areas covered.
